Choose a payment setup for an online shop or physical business. Follow concise steps and compare checked Hub providers.
Start accepting Bitcoin
1
Choose who controls the funds
With a self-hosted system such as BTCPay Server, you control the wallet and maintain the server. A managed provider handles more of the setup. Check custody, supported countries, settlement options and fees before choosing.
2
Connect the payment wallet
Follow your provider’s wallet setup and backup instructions. Choose on-chain Bitcoin, Lightning or both according to the supported setup. Verify that you can restore access before taking real payments.
3
Add checkout or a point of sale
For an online store, use the supported plugin or API. BTCPay Server has a WooCommerce integration and payment buttons. Its point-of-sale app works in a browser, so a phone or tablet can show a payment QR code in your shop.
4
Test payments and refunds
Make a small test payment using each payment method you enable. Wait for the wallet or provider’s required confirmation before fulfilment. Test the refund workflow and keep invoice, payment and settlement records in your accounting currency.
What does it cost?
BTCPay Server software has no payment-processing fee. Hosting, on-chain transactions and Lightning operation can still cost money. Managed providers set their own fees and settlement terms; use their current pricing page.
