What it does

The bip38 package implements the BIP 38 private-key encryption convention. It serves applications that need compatible encrypted key formats. Check the convention's limitations, password handling and import support before using it; newer wallets may use different backup and encryption approaches.

BIP38 is a standard process to encrypt Bitcoin and crypto currency private keys that is less susceptible to brute force attacks thus protecting the user.
